Nice to see the kind of progress you are making as the ADUN. Wish you great success in all your efforts.

I understand that you are a commissioner in PHEB and I wish to bring this matter to your attention.

On the 11th of May, YB Thanasekaran made a statement in Makkal Osai and Malaysian Nanban, that the Butterworth Sri Maha Mariamman Temple owes PHEB RM160,000.00 (It was also stated that all other temples under the PHEB also owes PHEB moeny).

On the 4th of April, former Exco Mr. PK Subbaiyah (also the former Chairman of PHEB) handed over the PHEB with RM1.4million which belongs to all the temples under the PHEB.

Somewhere the maths does not equate well.

To my knowledge all the 5 chairman of the BW Mariamman Temple (since 1984) are still around (Dato RA, Mr. PK Subbaiyah, Dato M. Kuppan, Mr. CV. Prabakharan and Mr. Suppiah Manickam). All did great service to the temple, and I don't beleive that they left the temple with bad debt.

This displeasure had been conveyed to YB Thanasekaran and YAB Tuan Prof. Dr. Ramasamy.

Hope something can be done to restore the faith in PHEB when dealing with the funds collected from the public via the temples.

If transparency is the basic foundation of your struggle, please bare all the accounts to the public.

In order to make Penang dynamic, dynamic actions are required to turn around the people's perception on PHEB.

Community want to know how government are chanelling the temple incoming money and who is the beneficiary?

Why can't we used the money to facilitate the Penang Hindu's and [Penangites] to futher their education. Of course not scholarship but it can be done in loan basis and if they got the first class degree, consideration can be given to convert the loan to scholarship.

This is exactly what we are doing now after taking over from previous management.
Your proposal is 1 of our plans to use the money in coffers to benefit the Hindu community.

Dear YB RSN Rayer,

I am not sure whether 2 weeks is too short or too long but I just thought of dropping a line to check on the progress of the matter related to BW Sri Maha Mariamman Temple RM160,000 debt.

Penang Hindu Endowment Board (PHEB) is a strategic arm to serve the Hindu Religion. It could be argued that PHEB is just a trustee, but I am sure things can be changed. With 5 temples under its wings, it can elevate the awareness of religious importance and engage our community onto healthy activities. I dare to say that financial support is never an issue. Last 5th of June 2008, Penang Hindu Samajam launched the 1st Indian Voluntary Fire Brigade and Rescue Team. At the moment the team consist of 40 youths and it can be ensured that these 40 youths will be away from bad elements. The cost to launch this team is huge but there are a lot of generous people and they were more excited about the team. They gave an overwhelming support.

PHEB can, by itself or jointly with other organizations launch healthy activities.

The 5 temples under PHEB are the platform to reach the people. Use it wisely for mutual benefits.

If you are looking for an honest and selfless person to aid in the struggles of PHEB i recommend that you enlist the help of Dato' M. Kuppan (former Chairman of the BW Temple). He is probably the most honest, selfless and pricipled man that i know. I am sure he would be ever willing to aid in the advancement of all Hindus.
