State assembly session to go live

GEORGE TOWN: Penangites will have the opportunity to watch the 12th State Assembly proceedings live via the Internet from July 21 to July 31.

State Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Abdul Malik Abul Kassim said the eight-day session would be aired via the portal http://dunpenang.ipglobal.tv or linked through www.penang .gov.my.
“The full coverage is consistent with the state’s aim of operating a CAT (competency, accountability and transparency) government.
“Penangites will have the opportunity to judge the performance, quality and credibility of their 40 elected representatives,” he said, adding that there would be no censorship.

    Dear YB,

I didn't have the chance to see the live session of the Penang State Assembly but I saw the photo session in the TV news at 8:00pm.

Regarding the wearing of songkok as a ceremonial gear, it should not be considered as hindering any of our beliefs or followings.

Just a simple cross reference (my knowledge may not be indepth but this is my understanding), the US President, in his oath taking ceremony, says "....so help me God." I wonder, if one day an atheist becomes the President of US, would he say that line?

Again another reference to the US, their banknotes; there is a sentence printed on the note that says, "in God we believe", would an atheist refused to accept the banknotes.

In my humble opinion, I think the stand taken by few of the PR YBs was not appropriate. It is merely a dresscode to show unity. It doesn't mean that we have adopted another culture or belief. Indeed, the suit you all wore was never our identity let it be a Chinese ADUN or an Indian ADUN.

Alway remember, you all (PR) are running a race where you were forced to start far behind the starting line and with hurdles everywhere. Every action you take, every move you make will be interpreted positively and negatively. Be very careful on all your actions and moves.

As for me, I see the refusal to wear the standard ceremonial dress by a few of the PR ADUN shows "disunity".

Anyhow, this doesn't give any impact on my support to all of you but just wanted to remind so that you all know how things were received.

Rather than saying "let the fiesta begin" in the state assembly, I would say, "may the struggle for the people prevail and reach new heights".

    Wishing you all the best.

    Y.Subra
