Narrow river: Sungai Pinang will be widened and deepened under a RM100mil project.

THE Penang Government is looking at several flood mitigation options to introduce near Sungai Air Itam and Sungai Pinang.Among the options considered are retention ponds, bunds and higher dam walls.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said one of the suggestions to the state Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) was to build a 1.5m high retaining bund at Sungai Air Itam to ‘straighten’ the riverbank and mitigate floods.
