BUKIT MERTAJAM: Five unemployed men were charged at a magistrate's court yesterday with murder and possession of a firearm during a robbery at Tesco Extra hypermarket in Seberang Jaya about two months ago. Counsel Jagdeep Singh Deo, who represented Ram, told the court that the police had abused the remand process by taking his client for a remand road show for six weeks. He said his client who was shot in the stomach during an incident at Bukit Merah near Bagan Serai, Perak, on March 27, was initially remanded in Krian and was then taken to Seberang Prai Tengah, Seberang Prai Utara, Sungai Petani and Seremban police stations for investigations.
Counsel R.S.N. Rayer, who represented Jeganathan, claimed that his client was also remanded for more than five weeks.
