GEORGE TOWN: A multi-national company may move part of its operations aboard because it claims it is unable to “compete effectively”.
B. Braun corporate controlling, finance and information technology vice-president Dieter Gemmer said the company was considering moving part of its operations, specifically pharmaceuticals, from Penang to Indonesia because it does not wish to go through “medical middlemen” to sell its products.

Committee to study plans for dedicated bicycle lane

State Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the initiative was an “official step forward” to making the roads in Penang bicycle-friendly.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Five unemployed men were charged at a magistrate's court yesterday with murder and possession of a firearm during a robbery at Tesco Extra hypermarket in Seberang Jaya about two months ago. Counsel Jagdeep Singh Deo, who represented Ram, told the court that the police had abused the remand process by taking his client for a remand road show for six weeks. He said his client who was shot in the stomach during an incident at Bukit Merah near Bagan Serai, Perak, on March 27, was initially remanded in Krian and was then taken to Seberang Prai Tengah, Seberang Prai Utara, Sungai Petani and Seremban police stations for investigations.
Counsel R.S.N. Rayer, who represented Jeganathan, claimed that his client was also remanded for more than five weeks.
