GEORGE TOWN: It was a tense moment in a Sessions Court here when a lawyer demanded an apology from the judge for allegedly describing him as “rude and unethical.”

Counsel R.S.N. Rayer also said Sessions judge Rosilah Yop should apologise to him for advising his client to get another lawyer and that the judge should disqualify herself from hearing a criminal breach of trust (CBT) trial involving his client.

GEORGE TOWN: Seri Delima assemblyman R.S.N. Rayer said he had always fought for villagers of Kampung Lorong Buah Pala and stood by their cause.

Rayer, who was urged to resign from his state seat by the villagers during a demonstration on Saturday, said such a call should not have been made.

It could be BN ppl purposely pose as resident and demand PR rep to quit. Purposely show PR not able satisfy Rakyat. Hey , if today Penang still under Gerakan/BN, do the resident get to voice out? i think FRU/ water canon is waiting to shot!!!!!

This assemblyman shouldn't promise what he cannot fulfil.
The people must also understand there's only so much an assemblyman can do, short of breaking the law. You can't expect the state govt to spend millions to buy up private land so that you residents can continue to squat on it.

THE special committee on Tamil schools in Penang has given out RM1.5mil aid from the state government to 28 Tamil schools in April. Deputy Chief Minister (II) Dr P. Ramasamy said yesterday the money was presented to the schools during a ceremony in Komtar.

THE Balik Pulau Magistrate's Court today acquitted and discharged Teh Hooi Wen, the mother of murdered Shearwel Ooi Ying Ying, of taking methaphetamine.
In his submission, defence lawyer R.S.N. Rayer said there were clear contradictions in the witnesses' evidence particularly regarding Teh's urine test.

GEORGE TOWN: The state government is looking at the possibility of rewarding Penangites who take care of their aged parents.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said if the state’s financial situation is sound, deserving Penangites would be given RM1,000 under the Senior Citizens Appreciation Programme if they were named as beneficiaries upon the death of their parents.

THE police will soon rent premises in crime hotspot areas in Penang to keep better tabs on illegal activities. State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Ayub Yaakob said this would be done under the ‘pondok komuniti’ (community centre) programme.
“One of the identified areas is Island Glades which include the area along Jalan Yeap Chor Ee till Universiti Sains Malaysia in Minden.

GEORGE TOWN: The federal government should not "cut its own nose to spite its face" by punishing Penang as far as development allocation is concerned.
InvestinPenang Berhad executive committee chairman Datuk Lee Kah Choon said if this was the "modus operandi" following the change in the state leadership from the Barisan Nasional (BN) to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR), the country would suffer in the end.

SINGAPORE: In its aim to attract foreign investors, Penang will set up a promotions representative office in Singapore.
The office could open by the beginning of next year and it “will be staffed by people passionate about Penang”, Lim Guan Eng, chief minister of Malaysia’s third largest state by GDP, told The Edge Singapore while on a business promotion visit.

PENANG is set to receive about RM700 million in investments from two companies this week, says InvestPenang's executive committee chairman Datuk Lee Kah Choon.
Lee said the state government would be finalising the deals with the companies which would then be followed by the signing of agreements to purchase the land for their plants.
"We need to finalise a few issues first before signing the agreements with the companies which will be based in the mainland," he told a media briefing in Penang today.

GEORGE TOWN: Penang will make every Monday a “No plastic bag day” from next month in a bid to become the country’s first ‘green’ state.
It is learnt that shoppers who do not bring their own reusable bags will be charged 20 sen for each plastic bag when making purchases from shopping complexes and hypermarkets.
